Food Photography

This week's digital imaging task is probably my favourite thing in the world, FOOD!
I looked into lots of research on food photography and some of the images are amazing, I wanted to try out an idea I had for ages with using food to write words.
I used smarties and liquorice all sorts because they are really interesting colours and shapes to create words and here are the results :)

Please let me know what you think!

Interim Evaluation

I set up my blog in September 2014 for my Specialist Practice unit in HND photography. I knew absolutely nothing about blogs before I started this unit and the whole idea absolutely petrified me!!

I thought that I was going to be talking to a big, empty room & no one would be reading my blog or looking at my photographs but after a few weeks, I started to gain twitter and blog followers and page views which was mega exciting!!!!

It is really interesting to look at other photographers work on their blogs & twitter, then comment on photographs that I really like & also get comments on my own work from other people too.
I have found lots of inspiration from other bloggers for various photo shoots, whether it be make up & hair, outfit or location ideas.

Bloglovin is a website where everyone can read their favourite blogs all in one place. It has been such a helpful website to find other bloggers like me and other photographer's blogs too, gain followers and find photographs that I like. I also set up a photography Twitter account so that I could reach other creatives through social media, using hashtags and relevant hashtags means that you gain a wider audience because people will be able to see your tweets when they search for a certain thing. This means that the kind of audience I have been reaching are the kind of people who are interested in similar things to myself such as particular tv shows, photography or something that was newsworthy at the time.
Twitter works the same as a blog, the more people that I have been following, the more followers that I have gained. The more times I tweet & blog, and the more active I am, then the response is bigger. I have really enjoyed being active on Twitter and also my Facebook page, it has benefitted me by more people noticing my photographic services & wanting me to photograph events for them, such as weddings, parties or family photos etc.

My main blog posts have been surrounding my own photography work such as shoots I have done in the past, weddings and my most recent fashion shoots. It is really good to network with people such as models, make up artists and designers. By blogging, you can post links to their websites, Twitters or Facebook pages so that any readers can reach them too if they wanted.
I have also blogged about other creatives such as fashion photographers, youtube vloggers and designers and had a handbag designer tweet about me and my photograph that I took for her, which is such a rewarding feeling for all of my hard work.

My main reason for blogging has been to get my name and photographs out there for the world to see. I think that I still have a long way to go as I only have 76 followers on Bloglovin but I think that seeing as it has only been 6 months then there is still time to gain more of an audience in the future. I will still continue to blog even though the deadline for this project is fast approaching because I think it is a good habit that I have gotten into by blogging at least twice a week. It means I am always being active on Twitter, aswell as blogging, interacting with other creative people and going out & taking new photographs.

I have really enjoyed the project, as I have learnt more about the technical side to putting together a blog & also setting up my own website. - www.danniellehuntphotography.com
This is something that I didn't know how to do before and even though it is a learning progress I am getting there slowly. :-)

Thank you to everyone who has followed me and been reading my blog posts over the last 6 months, be sure to keep posted for many more photo shoots & blog posts to come. There should be plenty more next weekend after my exciting photoshoot for Bunny Pumpkin Boutique tomorrow & then after my travels to New York!

I will be posting soon so watch this space!

Vintage Photoshoot

For one of my university projects, I have to recreate a vintage smoking advertisement. I choose to re-create a vintage smoking ad from the 1940's/50's.

I managed to get access into the STEAM museum in Swindon & use the vintage Buffet Car as the location.
I'm really pleased with the photographs & am SO SO excited for my retro pin up photo shoot next Saturday, so watch this space for those photographs :-)

Megan Razey is the glamourous model featured in this photos, she is a photographer too. Check out her blog - www.meganrazeyphotography.blogspot.co.uk  :-)

Designer Handbag Photo Shoot

This past week has been so exciting!! Me & my friend from college were approached by an new & upcoming handbag designer to take some photographs of her products for her website.

I haven't been able to post anything until after showing her the photo's, but I have shown her now & she is so pleased so I am now able to share them with all my lovely bloggers.

We choose to shoot in two locations, studio & at Lydiard House Gardens.

These are the best selections of photographs from the studio shoot. Models are a friend from my college class, Laura & Miss Wiltshire 2014, Nicole.

Laura is a photographer too, check out her blog - http://laurajaynewardphotos.blogspot.co.uk

10 things that I learnt as a photographer last year

Seeing as it's a fresh new year, I thought I would write a reflective blog post this week of all the highlights and things I have learnt in photography in 2014.

1. Different ways of using studio lighting

Side Lighting

Split Lighting

Paramount lighting

I'm always keen to learn new techniques, especially when it comes to lighting. I spent quite a lot of last year in the studio, which I do throughly enjoy however shooting on location is my preference.

2.  Things about the world & my own personal love for travelling

Paris

Budapest

Tunisia

London

My Mum is a travel agent so it's easy to work out how I have gained my passion for travelling & learning about the world and culture around me. I love to see new places and can't wait for 2015, I will be visiting, Rome, New York & Florida.

3. How much I enjoy fashion & beauty photo shoots

Before starting my HND, my points of interest in photography were usually photographing friends and family and some landscapes. When I started college, I soon began to realise that I enjoyed this far more.

4. Photographing for clients, students & teachers from college

Its always so nice to be approached by people to take some photographs for them & I have had some amazing opportunities in the last year. The photographs above are from the Media Make Up End of Year Show 2014 at The Steam Museum & head and shoulder shots for a hairdressing lecturer's portfolio.

5. Photoshop Techniques

Overlaying & blending in Photoshop. Also editing and softening people in Photoshop.

6. Animal Portraits

I had never had the chance to photograph animals before & I didn't realise just how hard it is! Patience is key & a few doggy treats.....

7. Using Smoke Bombs in photographs to create dramatic effect

Smoke bombs are so fun to work with!! They only last around 1 minute so all the poses have to be practised before I set it off, I always have to work really quickly and try to get the shots that I want. Luckily, my model is amazing & works well under the pressure.

8. I have learnt about organising shoots, selecting locations & booking accommodation & transport

The first two photographs were shot at Cirencester Outdoor Swimming Pool, I drove to the location with MUA and model and we had an evening shooting. The beach photographs are from Woolacoombe Bay, we stayed there for two days and had a great time. I organised the transport, accommodation and locations for the different shoots. I've gained a really strong friendship with both of them & we have more shoots organised in the near future. :)

9.  Light Trails

I have only recently posted these photographs in the last couple of months or so, but it is a skill I had always wanted to master & Bonfire Night last year, I got the shots that I wanted. I think the people holding the sparklers could do with a bit more practise :) but the overall idea is there & I want to definitely experiment with this further.

10. Bokeh

Keep posted throughout 2015 to see what new things I will photographing this year :)
